Hampton Nature Reserve Volunteers

Interested in getting involved with some practical conservation work while at the same time meeting new people and getting out in the fresh air? Fancy helping in conservation activities for Europe's largest Great Crested Newt population?

Hampton Nature Reserve volunteers meet every other weekend to carry out maintenance and practical habitat management on the Reserve.

As well as playing an important part in conserving the habitat to benefit the various species living there it is also a great way to relieve stress, meet like-minded people and get some exercise!

The group meets at the Froglife office at 9.15am or at the Reserve itself by arrangement.  Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can inform you of any rearrangements/cancellations.  Wear outdoor clothes and strong footwear and bring waterproofs or sunscreen as appropriate.  We will provide tea, coffee and water but bring your own lunch.

Upcoming tasks include:

  • Scrub clearance

  • Creating egg-laying sites for grass snakes

  • Pond management

  • Creating hibernaculas

For further information please contact the Hampton Reserve Ranger, Francesca Barker, on: 01733 558844, 07977 250048 or click here to email

Interested in some pond survey training?

Starting in March Froglife will be running training sessions to set up a team of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Pond Surveyors (CPPS).  Sessions will include survey techniques for various aquatic flora and fauna, plus the Habitat Suitability Index, mapping and data recording. Find out more...
